Lecture Summary: Over the last 15 years, over 2100 robotic assisted coronary artery bypass surgeries have been performed. 39% of these cases underwent staged hybrid coronary revascularization. This caused a paradigm shift in the treatment of coronary artery disease at our institution, now 50% of all CABG procedures are done robotically via a small anterior thoracotomy, avoiding a sternotomy and cardiopulmonary bypass. This procedure increased patient and cardiology satisfactions and reduced institutional resource utilization. Surgical techniques and outcomes will be discussed.
Learning Objectives:
Review coronary anatomy and coronary artery disease processes.
Explain multiple options currently available for treatment of coronary artery disease.
Describe the application of minimally invasive coronary artery bypass surgery, exemplified through da VinciĀ® robotic assisted case reviews and videos.
