Lecture Summary: Out-of-hospital cardiac arrest—leading cause of death. 360,000 cases per year and only10% survive to hospital discharge. Patients suffer Ischemia-reperfusion injury and Permanent brain damage. Therapeutic hypothermia: only available effective treatment. This presentation will include pre-clinical data on a novel treatment strategy, utilizing a natural substrate that results in tissue preservation and a mitigation of ischemic-reperfusion injury.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion the participant will be able to describe strategizes to improve cardiac arrest outcomes
Upon completion the participant will have acquired an understanding of the treatment strategy impact on brain protection
The participant will be able to describe how this novel treatment strategy may impact preservation of other organs post cardiac arrest
